10.26.2001 - Beta Band Report
So I saw the the Beta Band on Wednesday night at St. Andrews Hall.
I did see them with Radiohead 2 times this summer but I really didn't check them out or pay much attention because of this.
There was no opening band there. Just a DJ which was pretty cool. Sometimes I can do without the whole opening band thing. Anyway, this DJ was playin some Ghetto beast. He spun Trick Daddy, Mary J.
I really wanted him to bust out with some Busta Rhymes - What It Is or Missy Elliot - Get UR Freak On. He didn't. During the DJ set and throughout the entire show freaky films shorts done by the Beta Band
were being projected on the screen behind them. The shorts were pretty funny. The Beta Band came out and played a good set + encore. I thought it was cool that they got up and switched instruments.
I mean like at one point the whole band was playing drums. I liked the show. So Beta Band, you aight in my book. They handed out free posters, flats, postcards, promo CDs and Radiohead stickers. It was good times.
The frontman Steve Mason dedicated a song to a Richard Dreyfuss lookalike, which was funny. I also saw this weirdo guy who looked like Neil Young and carried a wack handbag doing scary Cumbaya dances throughout
the show. It kinda bothered me because he was waving his hands like a crazy person.
