10.16.2003 - The Garage Door of Captivity: Stupid Ways to Get Stranded Inside or Outside of Your House PART II
Before my garage was filled with furniture I used it to park my car. My daily routine would be to drive in and close the garage door. One night I did just that and heard a snap which I pretty much ignored. I was tired and had to be into work at 9AM for a meeting.
Everything was business as usual the next morning. I was going to be in about 15 minutes early, things were going good. I pushed the garage door button and nothing happened. I tried again and the same crap. I tried to open the door manually, which didn't work at all. I started to freak out because of the meeting and the fact that I was trapped at my house again. I called into work and they said it was ok and gave me some ideas as to what was wrong with my door. I came to realize that my coil snapped and I had to get it replaced to be able to even open the door. I also found out that this wasn't covered by Home Owner's insurance. So I called a place in Ypsi who luckily came out in about 10 minutes. I wasn't happy about shelling out an extra $135 for a house I bought a week before. I got into work around 11AM which wasn't too bad but why couldn't the garage spring snap before I moved in? |
