08.16.2003 - Blackout 2003

It all started with a near miss traffic accident. I was driving about 80mph in the fast on westbound I-94. Once again I was driving behind a view obstructing truck. He suddenly swerves into the shoulder. My immediate instinct is to swerve into the right lane. The problem was... I didn't look before I swerved. I was so lucky that there wasn't any car in the right lane. I barely had enough time to stop behind the car that was in front of me. MY adrenaline didn't kick in, but I was mad at myself for not looking before switching lanes. I was really lucky.

So work was business as usual up until about 4PM when the power died. Everybody was standing in the hallway talking about the outage like they were getting ready for a tornado drill. I went to the restroom and then came back. Every single person in my row of cubes was standing up talking on their cell phone. I pointed and started making fun of them. Carla was saying about how New York and Ottawa lost power too. I said something like "hell naw, I just bought a pound of turkey cold cuts today. I ain't gonna let it go bad." So I kept talking about the turkey and Carla busted out with "multiple cities are without power, who cares about your turkey." Everybody went home after that. A few of us played baskbetball outside for awhile. I got home around 7pm. To the darkest, most boring, stickiest night ever. I went to sleep around 9:30pm.
