10.01.2003 - The Van the Hated Me: Stupid Ways to Get Stranded Inside or Outside of Your House PART I
Julian was kind enough to lend me his van when I was in the thick of moving. So I picked up the van from work and left my car in the parking lot. I was initially apprehensive about driving it because my past with large vehicles is a sketchy one. Well, not really... Except for that time I hit my parents old house with the top of a U-Haul [which shook the whole house and scared the crap of my parents. not to mention ripped off part of the gutter]. Anyways, I ignored the fact that I was uneasy and drove the van home. I ended up making 2 trips which went very smoothly I might add. So I unloaded the van for the last time and went to sleep.
I got ready for work as I normally would and everything was going smoothly. I opened the van door and turned the crank. The van wouldn't start. I thought it was some kind of joke because it was working fine the night before [but Julian did warn me about the tail-light]. Anyways, I tried to get it going a few more times before deciding to call into work. I turned on my phone and realized that the battery was almost dead. Hell no, I wasn't ready to be stranded at my house. I was so freaked out. I had enough juice to send out a distress message to work letting them know that my phone was dead and I needed someone to pick me up [preferably Julian or Carla since it was they van]. I waited at home for about an hour and a half. Julian pulled up and popped the hood. The battery was all corroded. He asked if I had to Coke to melt the acid away. And yeah, I don't drink Coke. He got the van to start with a jump after about 5 minutes. The van was fine all the way to work [which was good]. It just wasn't the best way to spend the first night at my house.
By the way, the van broke down again at the Shell station by my parents' house. I immediately called Julian and asked "Why Yo Van Hate ME?" But it was easy to get Coke for the battery there... |
