09.14.2002 - Walking Down West Nine Mile

West Nine MileAbout 3 or 4 weeks ago I was mowing the lawn and got tore up by a herd of ravenous mosquitoes. A few days later I was feeling sore all over, tired, light-headed and pains at the base of my skull and neck. I was doing some online news reading and was convinced I had the West Nile Virus. What made things worse was I have no medical insurance until December. So I got this crazy ass disease that theres no cure for and no medical insurance. As the days went on I wasn't feeling better and read up more on the disease. I finally gave in and went to get my West Nile checked up. The black woman that took down my information was looking at me weird when I describing my symptoms. I must have scared and bewildered her at the same time. When I told her I thought I had West Nile she kinda laughed at me. So did the doctor that examined me. Pretty much, everyone at the Urgent Care clinic did. They told me that I was overreacting and that I was ok. I was just really paranoid given my circumstances. Well, the fact of the matter is... I was sick maybe not with West Nile Virus but definitely with the West Nine Mile Virus.
