07.17.2001 - Cibo Matto, Lay the Phat Beats Down
They played for free on Sunday with the Concert of Colors in Chene Park.
Cibo Matto opened up with a super slowed down version of Welcome to the Jungle by GNR. Is it bad that I knew the song as soon as they started playing it even though I have never heard them cover that song before? Yeah, I all used to listen to Guns N Roses. Anyways, they played more from their 1st release than their 2nd Stereotype A 1999, which was kind weird. They didn't try out any new songs this time around. I see a an ongoing trend here. Radiohead, Weezer and Aphex Twin have all come back from 3+ year breaks with enough material for double albums. What about you Cibo Matto and Portishead? Where you is?
Back to the show... They closed the set with a mixed up Birthday Cake/I Know My Chicken. It was really good. They brought the performance up a notch or [noche] and butsed the place up. Great show and it was free too. Only one bad thing, that bitch Liz Copeland took the stage to talk about the next act, I'd beat her ass. I wanted to throw my camera at her.
I hung out with Al later on and he made fun of me for wearing a Cibo Matto shirt to a Cibo Matto show. I just wanted to show my support. I guess it was at the expense of looking like a dork.
